I’m Anthony Albertorio, the new developer evangelist for Portis by ShapeShift.

Portis by ShapeShift is a non custodial blockchain wallet that allows frictionless interaction with Dapps. It is designed to be easy to use for both developers and users.

💡 What’s a developer evangelist?
Think of me as a translator, a person who can explain technical matters to anyone interested. For developers, I’ll point out the benefits of Portis by ShapeShift to help you achieve your goals with as little friction as possible.

My goal is to:

  • Get you familiar with uses of Portis SDK by ShapeShift and how it can help you build things in the blockchain ecosystem, especially Ethereum.
  • Create tutorials on how to use Portis with some of your favorite protocols.
  • Conducting interesting interviews with companies using Portis and the latest tools in the ecosystem.
  • Help you stay informed with the current developments in the crypto space.
  • Help new developers and curious individuals get into the space with as little unnecessary jargon as possible. Where there is jargon, I will explain.
  • Occasionally, dive deep into certain aspects of projects, protocols, tokens and blockchain data structure primitives and how they fit with Portis.
  • Expose you to a multidisciplinary approach to blockchain by looking at fields like economics, finance, game theory, mathematics, law, history and more.
  • Engage with the community and share interesting articles.

✌️A bit about me:
I am a full-stack JavaScript and Solidity developer that has been in the Ethereum space since 2017. Currently, I am learning Rust, engaging in DeFi projects, investigating different blockchains, and exploring Libp2p. I have participated and won CovidGlobalHackathon, Hack Quarantine, EthBoston 2019, and Consensus 2019. Shout out to all my teammates!

Previously, I was a developer evangelist at ConsenSys. I am also the organizer of NYC Blockchain Devs, one of the most active blockchain developer meetups in the United States.

I entered the blockchain world via my work in medical research, where I saw that precision medicine and research was hobbled by the lack of access to medical data directly from patients. I started New York Health Artificial Intelligence Society as a way to create interdisciplinary conversations on how to improve the situation. Eventually, I discovered that Ethereum would be useful for decentralizing and giving patients ownership of their data.

What excites me about Portis by ShapeShift?
Portis excites me because it makes it easy for end users to interact with Dapps. They have a fanatical focus on the concerns of the developers. The documentation is clean, to the point and respectful of the developer’s time.

Portis is important because one of the biggest problems in crypto space is adoption by the mainstream user. From my experience, I have seen many crypto startups focus on the technicals while neglecting essential emphasis on the UX/UI, onboarding, and community.

For Dapps to cross the chasm from the hobbyist to the mainstream user, they have to realize that:

  1. The majority of users don’t care about your tech, only results!
  2. It needs to fit easily into the user’s current habits/workflows.

Portis provides a frictionless UX/UI experience for your end user with features like:

Thanks to smooth UX by Portis, these digital puppers will find a home.
  1. A familiar UX/UI similar to regular e-commerce, so a new interface does not turn users off.
  2. An embedded wallet so that users don’t face friction by the need to install additional software. See it in action.
  3. Easy to add to your project! Only add a few lines of code. There is no need for a browser extension.
  4. Clean UX Guidelines for a smooth login experience.
  5. Integrations to Gas Station Network, so your users don’t have to pay gas fees to try your Dapp.
  6. Reputation scores, so that Dapp developers can decide if they wish to sponsor a user’s gas.
  7. The ability for users to trust a Dapp and allow for transactions provided they are less than a USD $1 per hour.
  8. Letting your users easily buy Ether using a familiar e-commerce checkout experience at low and competitive rates.
  9. Easier user onboarding with one-click pay to remove impediments in your conversion funnel.
  10. … and more!

Check out the constantly growing list of Dapps that are easily onboarding their users with Portis! Some popular Dapps using Portis include 1inch, Aave, Balancer, Curve, AirSwap and more! If you need a sample Dapp to begin development, check out our CryptoPuppers Demo, and the associated GitHub repo.

Final thoughts:
What I love about this space is the collaborative spirit of the community. If you find or write a great article you think our developers should read, please share it with me! I’ll let others know!

Hopefully, you will allow me to be one of your sherpas into the world of blockchains and the decentralized web with the Portis by ShapeShift SDK. I am looking forward to guiding you on this journey.
